Dear Valued Patients,

All doctors have received notification from the SA Pharmaceutical Society that in accordance with
the Medicines & Related Substances Act 101 of 1965 for the control and sale of schedule medicines
we must adhere to the following criteria:

  1. The doctor has an ethical obligation to abide by the legal requirements of the Medicines and
Related Substances Act 101 of 1965 when writing prescriptions and keep comprehensive
    records himself.
  2. Prescriptions must be written in accordance with Regulation 28.
  3. The pharmacy must keep accurate records of the prescriptions dispensed in a patient profile.

What this means for us and our patients is that from the 1st September 2014 we will only be issuing
scripts to our patients after they have been requested in the following manner:

  1. E-mail: or
  2. Fax: 021 712 2243
  3. Written or typed scripts can be delivered to the practice and placed in the script boxes for Dr Hugh Wegner, Dr Dion O’Cuinneagain or Dr Tamlyn McKeag.

Important: All script requests need to clearly include the following :

  1. Patients full name
  2. Name and fax number of the pharmacy where the script needs to be sent.
  3. Names and doses of all medication to be clearly specified.
  4. Scripts will be charged for in accordance the Medical Aid Tariff code 0132

Please allow one working day for us to process your script.

Dear Patients

We wish to inform you of two changes that will be occurring at the practice in the next few months.

Firstly, we are excited to be launching an online booking facility from 1 April 2018. A limited number of appointments per day will be available for online bookings. It is a simple process to book an online appointment: Click the link “online bookings” on our website This facility will allow you to book the type of appointment you need, for example a normal appointment or a full medical, and can be booked in advance. You will be notified via email or sms when your appointment is confirmed.

You are still able to make telephonic bookings on 021 7129367/8.

Please do not hesitate to contact us on or if you are experiencing difficulties with the online booking system. We welcome your feedback during the roll out phase in April.

Secondly, from 1 July 2018, emergency call outs on the weekends will not be offered by us. This is due to the fact that most of our patients are already going directly to their local hospital emergency rooms on the weekend for urgent medical conditions. The contact details of our nearby Emergency Facilities are:

Constantiaberg Mediclinic        021 799 2193

Kingsbury Life Hospital            021 670 4333

ER24                                        084 124

Either Tammy or I will still be consulting from the rooms on a Saturday morning from 9am until 12pm, and we would encourage you to see us then rather than let a problem develop over the weekend. Please do not hesitate to contact us on a Monday morning after a visit to an emergency room should you still have any concerns and we will gladly assist you.

Dear Patients, Friends and Colleagues

At the end of March, after 40 years of private general practice, Dr Roy Leaver will be going on well deserved retirement. His special care, empathy, dedication and recognisable infectious laugh will be sorely missed. He has touched so many lives in an incredibly positive manner and it is his commitment to patients and to the practice which has laid the foundation of the underlying ethos of Tokai Medical Practice.

He goes on to pursue his passion for photography and enjoy quality time with his beautiful wife, Trish, sons and grandchildren who are scattered all over the southern hemisphere.

We are sure his propensity to study will also occupy him. He will however still be available to the practice as a locum, so his friendly face will be seen from time to time. We thank Roy for his years of hard work and wish him a very happy retirement.

Dr Tamlyn McKeag will be joining me to continue the ethos and standard of care that Roy Leaver has set.  She grew up in the southern suburbs of Cape Town, and qualified from UCT with an MBChB in 1998. She completed her internship at Victoria Hospital, Wynberg, and her community service in the Northern Cape and Conradie Hospital in Pinelands.

Tamlyn has practiced Family Medicine in the Southern Suburbs since 2001. She has an interest in women’s health and paediatrics, but enjoys all aspects of general practice.

When not at work, she loves spending time with her family and being in the outdoors.

In closing, I would like to once again personally thank Roy for his time and mentoring to me. I also look forward to a new chapter at Tokai Medical Practice with Dr Tamlyn McKeag.

I would like to thank you all for your continued support.

Warm regards,

Dr Roy Leaver continues to practise at the Tokai Medical Practice and has no plans to retire in the near foreseeable future. He looks forward to continue assisting you with your health issues.
